The Mafra Private Wine tour invites you to a Portuguese wine demarcated regions, where you will visit the countryside, providing you with an interesting perspective and contrast between the big city that we left behind, and true rural Portugal. After a short ride you reach the town of Mafra. As you approach the town center an imposing structure will emerge: the Convent and Royal Palace of Mafra. Built by orders of the Magnanimous King John V (18th century) the Convent, Basilica and Palace expresses the magnitude of the vast Portuguese empire and of the will of King John V to glorify God using only "the most noble materials". This is considered the purest expression of the baroque style in Portugal. The perfection of shapes, the magnificent marble rooms and floors, the astonishing and unique basilica and the one of a kind library, are just some of the things that we will invite you to visit and experience during this tour.

After this "royal" experience you will venture deeper into the countryside. Nestled in rolling green hills between the breathtakingly beautiful Atlantic coastline and the vibrant cultural life of Lisbon we will finally reach our winery: the Quinta de Santana. Dating back to the 17th century this beautiful estate was given by the King Carlos I to one of his mistresses, to whom he decided to build a private theater. Much later the Baron von Fürstenberg acquired the property, whose daughter married an English man. It will be this couple of winemaker that will invite you in to discover the wonderful world of the Quinta de Santana. After an explanation about the property you will be taken into the realm of the wine production and the vineyards on a private visit. Win tasting will follow in the old wine cellar, time to finally appreciate the traditional and timeless methods that have been applied to the art of wine-making.

After that it is time to return to our starting point to cherish the memories of a well spent half-day.
