Lisbon and Porto with First Class train

Lisbon and Porto with First Class train

Andrew McGee on Apr 2015

Generally, we had a good time. Lisbon and Porto were interesting and enjoyable. The people were extremely firendly and helpful, the food was good. The weather was mixed, but we won’t hold you responsible for that! Some particular comments on aspects of services etc. The car drivers were outstanding. always in the right place at the right time, always knew exactly what they were doing. Paolo, who picked us up at Lisbon Airport was charming, informative and amusing. The trip to Sintra and Cascais was fascinating, but perhaps went on a bit too long. We were collected from the hotel at 0830 and did not get back until 1900. By the end we were more than ready for it to be over. The tour of Porto was excellent. The guide Carla knew her stuff and organised it all brilliantly. The Dom Pedro Palace was an excellent and comfortable hotel. Some people on Tripadvisor say that it is not conveniently located, and they have something of a point. It is some way out of the centre, and a 10-minute steep uphill walk from the nearest Metro station (Marques de Pombal). But taxis are cheap in Lisbon, so that should not be too much of a problem. The hotel itself is very comfortable. The rooms are generous, the facilities are good. The bathrooms are of high quality. The food is also good, though perhaps a little expensive by Lisbon standards. It justifies its five-star rating…
