Tour Overview
Best of Madeira & Lisbon is an 11-day, 10-night Portugal vacation combining four nights in Lisbon with six nights in Funchal on Madeira Island. The package includes daily breakfast, airport-hotel transfers, round-trip airfare between Lisbon and Madeira, guided sightseeing and ample free time for independent exploration.
Begin in Lisbon with a guided introduction to the Portuguese capital before flying to Madeira for six nights. Discover the island’s dramatic mountain scenery and traditional villages on a full-day Santana excursion, and enjoy a traditional Madeiran dinner with drinks and folkloric entertainment. Return to Lisbon for two final nights, including a half-day excursion to Sintra with visits to the coastal areas of Cascais and Estoril.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Days 1-3 - Lisbon
Arrive at Lisbon Airport and transfer to your hotel for a two-night stay with breakfast included. Spend time discovering Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods, monuments, gardens and waterfront areas.
Half-Day Classic Lisbon Tour
Join a guided sightseeing tour of Lisbon, departing from Marquês de Pombal Square. Highlights include Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery and Ajuda National Palace, with admission to the palace included except on Wednesdays. The tour also includes a guided walk through Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest and most traditional neighborhoods.
Days 3-9 - Madeira
Check out of your Lisbon hotel and travel to Lisbon Airport for your flight to Madeira, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upon arrival at Funchal Airport, transfer to your hotel and begin a six-night stay with breakfast included.
Use your time in Madeira to enjoy Funchal and the island’s mountain landscapes, coastal scenery, villages and local culture. The program includes the following experiences during your stay:
Full-Day Santana Excursion
Usually available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Travel from Funchal to Camacha, known for traditional wicker crafts, and continue toward Poiso and Pico do Arieiro for panoramic mountain views. Descend to Ribeiro Frio, where time may be available for a short walk, then continue to Faial and Santana, famous for its traditional triangular thatched houses.
After free time for lunch, continue through Porto da Cruz and Portela before visiting Machico, one of Madeira’s historic towns, and returning to Funchal. Lunch is not included.
Traditional Madeira Evening
Enjoy a traditional Madeiran dinner with drinks, featuring espetada and local accompaniments. The evening also includes entertainment by a Madeiran folkloric group.
The remaining time in Madeira is free for independent sightseeing, relaxation or optional excursions at additional cost.
Days 9-11 - Lisbon
Check out of your hotel in Funchal and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lisbon. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for a two-night stay with breakfast included.
Half-Day Sintra Tour
Travel to Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage destination known for its historic center, narrow streets and traditional shops. Continue to the coastal areas of Cascais and Estoril before returning to Lisbon.
Day 11 - Departure
Check out of your Lisbon hotel and transfer to Lisbon Airport for your onward journey.
