Santiago de Compostela - Private Tour

Description

Every year thousands of pilgrims get on their way to reach Santiago and its imposing Cathedral where the mortal remains of the apostle Saint James still rest.

The Santiago de Compostela full-day Private Tour will leave the North of Portugal in the morning and head north to the city of Santiago de Compostela crossing the border into Spain. Once you reach Santiago you will understand that despite the opulent buildings of the city, it still manages to maintain all of its religious character. Walking in the historical center you will reach the outstanding Cathedral and the main square of Santiago. After a detailed visit to the Cathedral and other reference monuments around it, you will have some free time for lunch.

At lunch it will be time to taste some of the local Galician specialties, including some of the refreshing Galician wines. After lunch it will be time to return to Portugal crossing the river Minho whose past witnessed several historic battles between Portugal and Spain. To protect the population from Spanish attacks, the Portuguese kings built fortresses along the border, the most impressive of them all locagted in Valença do Minho. The 17th century walls make this star-shaped fortress into an almost impenetrable structure. It's indeed a marvelous small town where when you walk around you really feel like you've stepped back in time.
