Lisbon, Sintra and Estoril Coast - FD Private Tour

Description

This is our best-selling tour allowing you to discover the best of Lisbon and the surrounding areas of Sintra and the Estoril coast.

Charming Estoril Coast has several attractions such as famous beaches and popular towns such as Estoril and Cascais. Sintra a "must see" village, with its historic palace and  natural surroundings, has been classified as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tour will take you on a half-day journey exploring the traditional Portuguese towns. Starting at your hotel the tour guide will drive you straight to Sintra where hundreds of years of history and culture awaits you. A short walk in the old city center is mandatory where you'll see the traditional houses now converted into small quaint handicraft shops and traditional pastry shops. Continue to visit the highlight of the day: the Pena Palace. Driving around the mountain passing by chalets and aristocratic residences you will reach the 19th century Pena Palace in the most incredible combination of architectural styles, colors and shapes that you will find in Portugal.

After visiting the historic Palace the tour continues to the town of Cascais. Once a small fishing village, this town managed to maintain its seafaring traditions combined with the aristocratic and royal presences of the late 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Passing through its animated town center you'll find the cosmopolitan life side by side with the Atlantic.

In the afternoon you will arrive to the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. Lisbon was occupied by several civilizations along the centuries; Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Moors and finally the Portuguese after 1147. You will visit St. George Castle (Castelo de Sao Jorge), including its surrounding quarter as well as Alfama, Lisbon's oldest quarter. Lisbon is linked to the heroic deeds of Portuguese maritime exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries. This was the age of discoveries and the golden era of Portugal, transforming Lisbon into the opulent center of a vast empire. Part of the wealth from these expeditions was used to build magnificent monuments in a unique Portuguese style: the extravagant Manueline architectural style, best typified at Jeronimos Monastery (closed on Monday).

Lisbon has more than just monuments. You will also visit the traditional commerce and financial areas of the city, with their 18th century buildings including downtown and the "Chiado", a choice shopping area. In short, our tour includes all the best that Lisbon has to offer.

Lisbon is an unique European city, with its own history and characteristics that no other major capital possesses such as a great climate, wonderful cuisine and friendly people.
